Post What is the difference between fruits and vegetables?
Hi!

I know this is a little off-topic, but i just a thread about fruits and i asked myself "What is difference between fruits and vegetables?" I couldn't answer it. You can eat both, both a grown outside in the garden or on fields...

I think the main difference between fruits and vegetables is that fruits are tasting sweeter. What do you think?

The main difference between fruits and vegetables is that fruits are considered to be the mature ovary in flowering plants. The fertilized ovaries develop and protect the seeds. While vegetables are the edible product of herbaceous plants. And though it might seem that the difference between fruits and vegetables is sweetness, a tomato that is not sweet, is actually considered a fruit. It's one of the many misconceptions of fruits and vegetables.

Simply put, a fruit is the ovary of a plant, which means that it may contain seeds, while a vegetable is a plant part, which does not contain seeds, although some vegetables may be used in plant reproduction.

A vegetable, on the other hand, is simply a plant part like a flower, stem, root, or leaf. Broccoli, for example is a vegetable which appears in the form of a flower, while celery is a stalk vegetable, and celeriac is a root vegetable. Vegetables like potatoes are technically tubers, not roots, meaning that they are specially designed plant structures which store nutrients for the parent plant; tubers are also capable of budding into new plants. Some examples of leaf vegetables include spinach, cabbage, and lettuce.

The fruit is used to describe the fleshy part of the plant with seeds that has developed from the flower. Vegetables are herbaceous plants which have a soft stem and very few woody tissues. The fruit is the part of the plant that contains the seeds and they are divided into three classes. They are:

-Fruits with seeds in the flesh. Eg: melons, oranges, apples and berries.
-Fruits that contain stones or pits. Eg: plums, cherries and peaches.
-Dry fruits. Eg: grains, nuts and peas.

According to botanists, marrows and cucumbers are also classified as fruits because they contain seeds.

Well not much difference but there is some difference between fruits and vegetables. Because fruits are eaten without cook while vegetables are eaten after being cooking.
